Prof. Asif Bashir
President

President’s Message:

It is an honor to assume the presidency of the Pakistan Society of Neurosurgeons (PSN) almost 40 years after PSN founding president, our late father Prof. Bashir Ahmad.  I do so with a profound sense of responsibility, purpose and optimism for the future of neurosurgery in Pakistan and beyond. I am privileged to work alongside an outstanding executive leadership team whose intellectual depth and unwavering commitment position us to advance our discipline with precision and impact.

The Pakistan Society of Neurosurgeons stands as the principal academic and professional nexus for neurosurgery in our country. Our mandate is both clear and ambitious: to architect a neurosurgical ecosystem defined by clinical excellence, academic distinction & global interoperability. As the landscape of neurosurgery undergoes rapid transformation – driven by technological innovation through Artificial Intelligence, data science and sub-specialization – PSN is committed to ensuring that Pakistan remains aligned with these global advancements.

Contemporary neurosurgery is increasingly characterized by highly refined subspecialties, involving minimally invasive complex spine, skull base, neuro-oncology, cerebrovascular, endoscopic, pediatric, neurotrauma, and functional neurosurgery. Developing structured, competency-based training pathways within these domains is not optional – it is imperative. We aim to institutionalize advanced fellowship programs, integrate simulation-based surgical education and leverage emerging technologies through artificial intelligence and data-driven Robotic surgical planning to enhance both training and patient outcomes.

Central to our vision is the establishment of a robust, digitally enabled framework for lifelong learning. We envision a connected academic infrastructure that transcends geographic boundaries – facilitating virtual grand rounds, international case discussions, collaborative research networks, and real-time knowledge exchange. In parallel, we will intensify our focus on high-impact research, encouraging multicenter studies and evidence-based practice that can inform both regional and global neurosurgical paradigms.

Equity and inclusivity remain foundational to our national agenda. We are resolutely committed to integrating underrepresented and underserved regions of Pakistan into the mainstream of neurosurgical education and practice. By decentralizing opportunities, expanding mentorship pipelines, and deploying outreach and capacity-building initiatives, we aim to ensure that excellence is not confined to a few centers but distributed across the entire country.

Our global engagement strategy is equally deliberate and forward-looking. PSN will actively cultivate strategic alliances with leading international organizations, including AANS American Association of Neurological Surgeons, CNS Congress of Neurological Surgeons and the Asian Australasian Society of Neurological Surgeons. Through these partnerships, we will pursue bilateral training initiatives, joint scientific forums, collaborative research platforms, and cross-border knowledge transfer.

Patient care remains the central and defining priority of the PSN. In the context of Pakistan’s diverse healthcare landscape, we are committed to elevating care by strengthening capacity in resource-constrained settings, improving timely access to neurosurgical services, and standardizing evidence-based practices across institutions. By integrating advanced technologies with pragmatic, locally adaptable solutions, our goal is to deliver safe, equitable, and high-quality neurosurgical care to every patient—regardless of geography or socioeconomic status.

This is a moment of strategic inflection for PSN. We invite you all November 12-15, 2026, Lahore Pakistan, as we host 39th PSN mega congress with joint WFNS World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies Educational initiative.

Together, with purpose, precision and partnership, we will not only advance neurosurgery in Pakistan but define its future on the global stage!
